NHL, NHLPA hold first formal CBA talks

The NHL and the players' union held their first formal bargaining session in New York aimed toward hammering out a new labor deal.

Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly met with NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr, union special counsel Steve Fehr and several player reps at the league's Manhattan offices, a league spokesman told The Hockey News.

No specifics of the talks were revealed by either side. More discussions are expected next week.

Scott Hartnell of the Philadelphia Flyers, Rick DiPietro of the New York Islanders and George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks were among the players in attendance.

The current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire Sept. 15.
