Mets sign OF Byrd to minor league deal

The New York Mets announced Friday that they signed outfielder Marlon Byrd to a minor league contract.

Byrd, 35, batted .210 in 47 games with the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox last year. He was also suspended 50 games for testing positive for Tamoxifen, a drug that is reportedly used to prevent post-testosterone-cycle crashes.

Byrd has 82 home runs and 445 RBI in his 11-year career.
