La Russa not in line for Reds' opening
Tony La Russa does not have any interest in working again with Walt Jocketty -- at least as a manager.
The former St. Louis Cardinals skipper appeared to shoot down speculation that he might be reunited with Jocketty -- this time in Cincinnati as manager of the Reds.
Jocketty, the former Cardinals general manager who hired La Russa in 1996 and now serves in the same capacity with the Reds, is looking to fill a vacancy after Dusty Baker was fired Friday.
"Walt's had more than enough of me," La Russa told CBSSports.com while attending the Oakland A's-Detroit Tigers American League Division Series game on Friday night. "In fact, I talked to him today and told him that and he said, 'You're right. I agree.'"
La Russa, 69, is now a special consultant to commissioner Bud Selig. He recently worked with Joe Torre and John Schuerholz on the final proposal for increased instant replay that will be implemented next season.
The only other job that would interest La Russa is running a team as a front-office executive.
"I miss the winning and losing, but I'm really pleased that I'm allowed to stay close to the game," La Russa said. "If I ever got back to the winning and losing, it would be upstairs. It wouldn't be on the field."
La Russa was highly successful with the Cardinals, winning a World Series title in 2006, National League pennants in 2004 and 2006, and seven division championships.
