David Garrard back with Jets, placed on exempt list

Quarterback David Garrard is back with the New York Jets and placed on an exempt list for the next two weeks.

Garrard left the Jets in the spring due to a chronic knee problem.

Now that Mark Sanchez is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, the Jets are looking into whether Garrard can be a backup for them behind rookie starter Geno Smith, who has passed for seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.

“I was able to take the whole summer off and let my body heal," Garrard told the Jets' official website. "I started training a couple of months ago and my knee feels great,” said Garrard. “I’m sitting at home, watching games thinking, ‘Why am I at home? Why I am doing this to myself? I didn’t want to have any regrets one day.”
