Clemens hits 88 mph in Skeeters start

Roger Clemens threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Sugar Land Skeeters on Saturday night in his first professional game in five years.

The 50-year-old Clemens had a pair of strikeouts and registered as high as 88 miles per hour with his fastball. Clemens hasn't committed to more than the one start for the Skeeters, but the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals had scouts on hand at the game.

Clemens allowed a single hit while throwing 37 pitches.

He said during the week that he was enjoying the lead-up to Saturday's game, and that he'd be more likely to start a second game if he pitched poorly.

Clemens cited family, travel and his foundation as priorities in his life currently. However, that hasn't stopped rampant speculation that this could be the first step in an attempt to make a comeback to the major leagues.
