49ers keep Dixon, cut Cartwright

Safety Colin Jones was traded to Carolina, while the 49ers also released veteran fullback Rock Cartwright.

San Francisco will receive a seventh-round pick for Jones, who was one of the team's core special teams players last season.

Among the 49ers' notable cuts in paring the roster down to 53 players by Friday's deadline were linebacker Ikaika Alama-Francis, quarterback Josh Johnson and wide receivers Chris Owusu and Brett Swain.

Running back Anthony Dixon, who had been on the bubble, made the roster for now.
