Newark Catholic mourning death of Cannizzaro
Newark Catholic and the Ohio baseball community have suffered a great loss.
John Cannizzaro died Saturday, according to school personnel. The legendary baseball coach won a state-record seven state championships.
In 27 years over two stints at NC, Cannizzaro won 577 games. The Green Wave won 12 league titles, 21 district titles and 14 regional titles.
Cannizzaro, a 1970 NC graduate, was inducted into the Licking County League Hall of Fame in June. He previously was inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
