Nets’ Jacque Vaughn has been ‘very impressed’ with Cam Johnson’s play

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn is not one to mince his words when he’s addressing a player or talking about a player to the media. That proved true once again on Sunday when he heaped praise on forward Cam Johnson for the way that he’s played on both ends of the court.

“Been very impressed with him,” Vaughn said about Johnson before beating the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday 102-86. “I think he’s playing with aggression on both ends of the floor, helping us rebound… and then, he’s shown a little bit of everything.” In Johnson’s nine games with the Nets so far this season, he is averaging 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 45.2% from the field and 33.3% from three-point land.

Johnson has essentially been the second scorer behind Mikal Bridges and the former North Carolina Tar Heel has been one of the main ball-handlers for the Nets whenever Bridges or Spencer Dinwiddie are unable to make something happen. Johnson has been showing more of his skill set in Brooklyn now that he has the ball in his hands more often and is asked to do more than when he was with the Phoenix Suns. “His ability to handle the basketball, play pick-and-roll, his ability to shoot the ball off the bounce, in transition,” Vaughn said about the other skills that Johnson has been displaying for the Nets lately.
