Nets’ Jacque Vaughn isn’t ‘looking too far ahead’ to Ben Simmons’ return
NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has been dealing with one constant thing throughout his tenure as the head man of the team: how to maximize guard Ben Simmons on both sides of the floor and whether Simmons is healthy or not. Recently, even though Vaughn has said otherwise, he was to wonder if Simmons will play again this season.
“It is not with teammates so, I’ll say that piece of it,” Vaughn said when asked if Simmons participation level has increased since he was first able to do basketball activities. “So, like he hasn’t scripted with our group. Second group, first group, or anything of that nature.” Simmons has missed the past 15 games because of soreness in his left knee and in his back.
After losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Thursday 116-114 in heartbreaking fashion, the Nets are current on their longest losing streak of the season (5 games). With Brooklyn trailing the Miami Heat in the standings by 0.5 games, it’s important for the Nets to finish the season strong. From hearing Vaughn tell it, the team isn’t too worried about when Simmons will come back though.
