Nebraska WR enters the portal, picks up immediate offer from Arizona State

With the spring football portion of the offseason behind us, we could start to see movement as the staff looks to address the needs of the team. Head coach Scott Frost might have to take a look at the wide receiver position from a depth perspective.

On Friday, Huskers WR Latrell Neville put his name in the transfer portal. Neville was going to compete for playing time this year but wasn’t in the immediate plans to be among the top of the rotation. In a recent interview, associate head coach Mickey Joseph discussed several of his wide receivers.

“They got to continue to improve and I’m going to put pressure on them,” Joseph said. “I spoke to all of them and they’re playing for roster spots. It’s not the old days where you’re just going to sit here for three years and not play. You’re playing for roster spots and you’re going to get it done or you’re going to get it done somewhere else. Because we’re not going to sit back and just try to help you develop and you’re not going to continue to develop. If you don’t want to develop then I don’t know if you’re going to be able to play for me.” – via 247Sports

Neville signed with Nebraska in the 2021 recruiting cycle. 247Sports composite had him as a three-star WR out of Missouri City, Texas. He was ranked as the No. 104 WR in the country and No. 96 in the Lone Star State. Neville stands in at 6’3″, and that could be very attractive for some coaches around the nation looking for size at the position. He didn’t play in a game during the 2021 season for Scott Frost.

It was initially reported by Sean Callahan of Rivals. It didn’t take long for Neville to see some traction after he tweeted that Arizona State extended him an offer. It likely won’t take Neville much time to find a new home.
