NCMP cruises to easy win in season opener

Aug. 30—WILLIAMSBURG — The Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella girls' swim team won nine of the 11 events, finished 1-2-3 three times and 1-2 five times during a dominating season-opening performance on Aug. 24.

Peyton Ray was part of four wins, Addison Van Maanen registered three victories and the Aquagirls scored 320 points in a road triangular.

NCMP won the meet by more than 100 points. Host Williamsburg was the runner-up with 209 points and Tipton scored 80 in third.

The Aquagirls were 1-2 in the 200 medley relay and 1-3 in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Individual wins also were collected by Ray, Van Maanen, Izzy Lane, Anna DeVries and Harper Barton.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Tori White, Brooke Linahon, Paige Benson and Ray won the race in 2 minutes, 1.52 seconds.

Alex Riney, Estella Allen, Lane and Hailey Dickerson placed second in 2:04.59.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Linahon, Benson, Van Maanen and Ray won the race in 1:48.81 and the foursome of Allen, Jacy Linahon, Lauryn Garrett and Dickerson took third in 1:58.46.

Ray, Van Maanen, White and Lane teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:59.82. The team of DeVries, Avery Meyer, Dickerson and Brilea Moffitt placed third in 4:29.49.

Ray won both the 100 and 200 freestyle races.

Her winning time in the 100 freestyle was clocked in 57 seconds. Barton was the runner-up in 58.08 and Jacy Linahon placed fifth in 1:10.72.

Ray won the 200 freestyle in 2:06.86, while Riney (2:12.79) was second and DeVries (2:22.29) placed fourth.

The Aquagirls were 1-2-3 in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Van Maanen won the 200 IM in 2:27. White was the runner-up in 2:31.59 and Garrett placed third in 2:38.47.

Lane won the 100 butterfly in 1:09.53. She edged teammate Benson (1:09.76) by .23 seconds. Meyer finished third in 1:17.06.

Barton won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.45. Brooke Linahon was second in 1:17.31 and Allen was not far behind in third with a time of 1:17.49.

DeVries was part of a trio that placed 1-3-4 in the 500 freestyle. She won the race in 6:15.52. Meyer was third in 6:23.7 and Dickerson placed fourth in 6:36.05.

The Aquagirls were 2-3-4 in the 100 backstroke and 3-4-5 in the 50 freestyle.

In the 100 backstroke, White placed second in 1:04.24, Riney was third in 1:07.63 and Van Maanen took fourth in 1:08.23.

Benson (27.91) was third in the 50 freestyle and Brooke Linahon (27.92) placed fourth, but the duo was separated by just .01 seconds. Allen finished fifth in 28.16.

It's still early in the season, but Barton's time in the 100 breaststroke is currently top five in the state based on times plugged into Bound. Ray's 100 and 200 freestyle times, White's time in the 100 backstroke and Van Maanen's time in the 200 IM all currently rank in the top 10.

NCMP's times in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays also rank in the top 10.
