NC State football’s report card looks rough for offense in loss to Louisville

NC State football’s defense held things together in a 13-10 loss to Louisville, but the Wolfpack’s offense didn’t do its part on Friday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Despite three turnovers from its defense, the Wolfpack offense had three turnovers of its own and the lowest scoring output since putting up nine points at Syracuse last season.

Here are our grades from the Wolfpack’s ACC home opener.

Offense: F

The Wolfpack had more points (10) than first downs (9) and averaged 3.7 yards per play in its worst performance of the season.

Defense: B

Payton Wilson and Sean Brown were stellar for the Wolfpack defense, which held Louisville 30 points below its season average.

WOLFPACK LEGEND: How NC State football 'forged' Hall of Fame NFL coach Bill Cowher

Special teams: B

NC State punter Caden Noonkester will need an ice bath after his performance. Noonkester had eight punts for 326 yards, including a 51-yard boot. Brayden Narveson made his only field-goal attempt.

Coaching: C

It’s hard to point at the coaches if players aren’t making plays. The defense was sensational, but the offense remains in search of consistent playmakers.

Overall: D

The putrid performance on offense contributes to the overall grade. If NC State doesn’t get better in that area, it could be a long season.
