NBA DFS: Why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is worth the lofty price on Wednesday

Some players definitely benefited from the NBA All-Star break. I look to names like Oklahoma City’s point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Sacramento's De'Aaron Fox. Even Detroit's Cade Cunningham has been more consistent these last two weeks.

Unfortunately, you can't put all of them in one DFS lineup. I'm trying my best this week to ride the hot hand, but also find some options in the $20 range to balance out some pricey players.

$44 OKC PG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at MIN

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been worth every penny since the All-Star break. He’s averaging 33.3 points per game and now has a great matchup tonight with Minnesota. Point guards are averaging 26.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists against the Timberwolves these last few weeks. Portland backup point guard Brandon Williams just put up 27, SGA had 33, Steph Curry posted 34 and Tyrese Maxey had 28 points all in the last couple of weeks. With the way Gilgeous-Alexander has been playing, it’s not the time to fade him yet.

$23 DET PF Jerami Grant vs. CHI

If you’re looking for a struggling defense to attack, look no further than the Chicago Bulls. This defense continues to get slammed with injuries. The Bulls are already with top defenders Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso. Now, there’s a chance center Nikola Vucevic could be out with a right hamstring strain. Even if he plays, this defense has been one of the better ones to attack. They’re allowing 121 points per game on the road since the All-Star break. Looking at the Pistons stats, Jerami Grant and Cade Cunningham are averaging around 21 points per game in their last five. The difference in daily fantasy is, Cunningham is worth $33, while Grant is worth $23. Both players can have a good game, but I’m looking to save some money here with Jerami Grant.

$21 DAL PG Spencer Dinwiddie vs. NYK

Spencer Dinwiddie has been one of the best value plays in the NBA the last few weeks. He’s averaging 22.3 points per game since the All-Star break. With Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson nursing a right foot injury, Dinwiddie has been a solid replacement. The New York Knicks are also allowing point guards to have success since the break. They’re allowing point guards to average 19.3 points, six rebounds and 6.2 assists. Looking back at recent performances by De’Aaron Fox (24 points), Cam Payne (17 points) and Tyrese Maxey (25 and 21 points), there’s a good chance someone forgets about Dinwiddie while focusing on Luka Doncic, leaving this $21 value play in good shape.
