MSSU's McCrae named MIAA Golfer of the Week

Mar. 7—Missouri Southern golfer Tradgon McCrae was named the MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. It is the fourth time he has received that honor in his MSSU career.

McCrae is no stranger to MIAA and national recognition. Last year, he was named the MIAA Player of the Year after topping the regular season individual standings with 39.5 points with top five finishes in three of the four MIAA tournaments. He also finished second at the MIAA championships.

Earlier this week, the Plainville, Kansas, senior took first after a three-round even par 210 that led the Lions to the team title at the Hardscrabble Invitational at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas. McCrae logged three birdies in the final 18 holes and totaled 11 birdies and an eagle over the three rounds.

He carries the lowest average on the team at 71 and has the lowest round of the season with a 64 at the Holiday Inn Express Invitational in St. Joseph in October.

McCrae also was recognized with the Golfer of the Week award three times in the fall of 2022.

Last year, McCrae led the golf team to both the MIAA regular season and conference tournament championships. That marked the first time in program history the Lions won both in the same season.

McCrae also was named a Golf Coaches Association of America All-American Scholar and Black College Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar and All-MIAA Scholar Athlete.

In 2021-22, McCrae had a team-low stroke average of 73.8 with a low round of 67 at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite in Amarillo, Texas, and was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

McCrae came to MSSU via Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College, where he was part of the No. 1 ranked junior college team in the nation. He helped the Blue Dragons win the NJCAA National Preview and individually was ranked as high as No. 4 in the junior college rankings. McCrae carried an average of 72 and was an All-Region and All-Conference selection at HCC.
