MPSSAA boys and girls basketball playoffs: Washington County seedings and matchups

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association released its basketball playoff brackets Friday, with the region quarterfinals set to begin Tuesday for boys and Wednesday for girls.

Fourteen Washington County teams are set to compete. Here are their seedings and matchups:

Boys basketball

1A West Region I: On Tuesday, No. 6 Hancock will travel to play No. 3 Southern Garrett, while No. 7 Clear Spring will face No. 2 Allegany on the road.

The winners of those two games will meet in the semifinals Thursday.

1A West Region II: No. 1 Smithsburg, the two-time defending region champion, received a first-round bye and will host either No. 4 Catoctin or No. 5 Brunswick in the semifinals Thursday.

No. 6 Boonsboro will travel to play No. 3 South Carroll on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to play No. 2 Liberty.

2A West Region I: No. 3 Williamsport got a first-round bye will be at No. 2 Middletown for a semifinal Thursday. The winner will face either No. 1 Walkersville, No. 4 Winters Mill or No. 5 Francis Scott Key in the final.

CMC basketball: North boys fall in final as Frederick sweeps large-school titles

3A West Region I: No. 2 North Hagerstown will host No. 7 Tuscarora on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to play either No. 3 Oakdale or No. 6 Westminster on Thursday.

No. 5 South Hagerstown will be on the road Tuesday, facing No. 4 Linganore, with No. 1 Manchester Valley awaiting the winner.

Girls basketball

1A West Region I: No. 5 Clear Spring will travel to play No. 4 Northern Garrett on Wednesday, with No. 1 Southern Garrett awaiting the winner.

No. 7 Hancock will be at No. 2 Mountain Ridge on Wednesday. That winner will face either No. 3 Allegany or No. 6 Fort Hill.

1A West Region II: No. 2 Smithsburg received a first-round bye and will host either No. 3 South Carroll or No. 6 Brunswick in the semifinals March 1.

No. 4 Boonsboro, the reigning region champ, will host No. 5 Liberty on Wednesday, with the winner advancing to play No. 1 Catoctin.
