BOYS BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • LOUISVILLE 79, MASSILLON 59 Senior guard Hayden Nigro helped the Leopards (17-2) get off to a dominating start in rolling to a home win. The Leopards jumped out to leads of 9-0 and 23-4 on their way to a 25-7 first-quarter lead. Nigro scored nine points in the quarter and finished with a game-high 23 points. Junior guard Beau Siegfried added 15 points, junior forward Brayden Gross scored 12 and junior guard Avery Andrejcik had 10 points. Massillon sophomore guard Jadyce Thigpen scored a team-high 19 points, while senior forward Dre’Shaun Jackson scored 14 and freshman guard Xavier Williams had 10 points.

  • MALVERN 74, NEWCOMERSTOWN 32 The Malvern Hornets remain kings of the Inter-Valley Conference North. Rodney Smith scored 23 points to lead the Hornets to the outright division championship. It is their fifth straight IVC North title. Malvern (18-0, 11-0) jumped out to 31-11 lead after one quarter and was never threatened. J’Allen Barrino finished with 12 points for the Hornets.

  • GLENOAK 78, LAKE 47 Ja’Corey Lipkins and Reese Zerger scored 20 points apiece for the Golden Eagles (14-5, 7-4) in their win over the Blue Streaks. Josh Coffield scored 14 points to lead Lake (3-16, 1-11).

  • HOOVER 55, BOARDMAN 45 Crew Cain totaled 18 points, four rebounds and three assists as the Vikigns won at home Friday. Zac Braucher added 13 points for Hoover (12-6).

WEDNESDAY'S GIRLS BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS

  • TUSLAW 46, CVCA 38 The Mustangs earned a share of the PAC-7 championship with the Royals by winning at home Wednesday. Both teams finish their league schedule at 12-2. Destiny Dulkoski scored 21 points and fellow junior Breanna McCabe added 12 points for Tuslaw (17-5), which last earned a share of the PAC-7 title in 2020. Joi Williams led CVCA (17-3) with 14 points. The Royals had won nine games straight. Tuslaw has won 10 of its last 11 games.

  • LAKE 65, LOUISVILLE 47 Four Lake players scored in double figures in the road win, led by Serenitee Johnson’s 21 points. Savanna Horning added 14 points, Hayden Croyle had 12 and Paige Marshall scored 10. Brooke Haren was the leading scorer for Louisville with 21 points, and Courtney Barwick scored 10.

  • GLENOAK 53, AUSTINTOWN FITCH 50 Ja’Corey Lipkins scored 31 points to lead the Golden Eagles (13-5) to a nonleague road win. Lipkins made five 3-pointers for the second consecutive game, as the senior guard has totaled 59 points in those two games. Marcel Finkley scored 24 points to lead Fitch (10-7).

  • HOOVER 51, ALLIANCE 50 Rob Oster made a 3-pointer with six seconds left to put the Vikings in the lead and freshman Connor Newell took a charge on the ensuing possession to seal their road win. Zac Braucher led Hoover (11-6) with 13 points and six rebounds. No Alliance details were reported as the Aviators fell to 7-11.

  • HOBAN 64. GREEN 45: Hoban (12-6) tied the game at 38-38 midway through the third quarter before a 22-4 run blew open the game at Green. Green (13-4) led 29-26 at the half, but committed 17 turnovers in the loss. Hoban was led by 15 points from James McCarthy and 13 each from Jonas Nichols and Kenny Scott. Playing without injured point guard Antonio Martin, Green was led by 17 points from Brady Rollyson and 14 from Jarrett Taylor.
