Will momentum carry Rory McIlroy to PGA Championship win?

Yahoo Sports’ Jay Busbee discusses Rory McIlroy's awe-inspiring fourth Wells Fargo Championship win this weekend and what it could mean for this week's PGA Championship.

Video Transcript

If Rory mcilroy plays at the PGA Championship this week, the way that he played on Sunday at the Wells Fargo, nobody is beating him.

Not Scotty Scheffer, not 2000 era Tiger Woods, not the ghost of Arnold Palmer.

Nobody mcilroy was on fire on Sunday down two strokes to Xander Shaley after seven holes, he went and flipped that into a six shot lead in just eight holes.

That is elite level performance right now.

And that's what mcilroy's been demonstrating for the last 10 years and everywhere except for the majors.

His last major win came in 2014 at the same Valhalla golf course where this year's PGA championship is being held and it's been a long quiet 10 years at the majors for him.

Since then.

He's played well.

He's got top 10 finishes every single year except for one since then, multiple top 10 finishes.

The problem is that he hasn't been able to close the deal is this year gonna be the year.

Maybe we've seen him come in hot before.

We've seen him come in cold before we've seen him come in.

Lukewarm before.

But at least this year he's got a running start with two straight wins in his last two starts.

We'll find out soon enough if Rory mcilroy can finally close the deal on that fifth major this week for all the reports from Louisville.
