Missouri football: Chad Bailey suspended after Sunday DWI arrest
Missouri linebacker Chad Bailey was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at 2:46 a.m. Sunday morning according to the Boone County Sheriff Department’s arrest log. He was later released on a $500 bond.
Bailey, 23, was a team captain for the Tigers last season.
"We are aware of the situation involving Chad Bailey,” MU head coach Eli Drinkwitz said in a statement provided to the Tribune. “He’s been suspended according to Department of Athletics policy. We have high expectations for all of our student-athletes, on and off the field, and we will follow all departmental and campus policies."
The MU athletic handbook notes that all athletes who are arrested must serve a one-week suspension from all team activities. On second arrest, that suspension is increased to a month, and a third would mean a one-year ban.
Sunday’s arrest appears to have been Bailey’s first.
The linebacker opted to use his sixth season of eligibility and return to Missouri for 2023. The Missouri City, Texas native started 11 games last year.
He finished the campaign with 57 tackles, 8.5 of them for loss. He also had 2.5 sacks.
His best performance of the season came in the Tigers’ Gasparilla Bowl loss against Wake Forest to end the season. In that game, Bailey had nine tackles, 2.5 of them for loss, along with 1.5 sacks and a pass breakup.
Missouri had a spring scrimmage on Saturday in place of its regular spring game, due to cold weather. The Tigers will wrap spring practice this week, and should Bailey get a weeklong suspension, he would miss the end of it.
