Mississippi State men's basketball vs. Detroit Mercy: Live updates, score

STARKVILLE — Already with two lopsided wins in hand, Mississippi State men's basketball receives reinforcements for its third game of the season.

Rocket Watts, who underwent hip surgery after transferring this offseason from Michigan State, is expected to make his debut against Detroit Mercy on Wednesday (7 p.m., SEC Network+).

Watts tweaked his hip during a fall at Monday's practice, coach Ben Howland said Tuesday, but a team spokesperson confirmed Watts will be available.

The Titans have lost their first two games this year, although guards Kevin McAdoo and Antoine Davis combined for 44 points in a loss to Toledo on Saturday. Those two, as well as forward Madut Akec, are the primary options for Detroit Mercy.

Mississippi State beat North Alabama and Montana in routine fashion. Against the Grizzlies on Saturday, four players finished in double figures, with guard Iverson Molinar leading the way with 16 points. Guard Shakeel Moore and forward D.J. Jeffries each posted 15 points.

With Watts back in the fold, the backcourt depth for the Bulldogs is increased. Freshman Cam Carter has impressed in his first two games. As has Moore, a transfer from NC State.
