Evansville (7-5) entered the series having won its past two. In its lone meeting against an SEC opponent this season, the Purple Aces lost to Vanderbilt 7-3. They went 37-24 last season but failed to make the NCAA tournament after losing to Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

This series is the first ever meeting between MSU (9-4) and Evansville.

Game 1: Mississippi State 5, Evansville 2

Mississippi State rode a strong start from Nate Dohm to a series-opening win on Friday. He allowed two runs in 6⅓ innings while striking out 10. However, Dohm exited the game after his 101st pitch with an apparent right-arm injury. Dakota Jordan’s three-run home run in the third inning sparked MSU’s offense before the Bulldogs got two more runs in the fourth.

Game 2: Mississippi State 8, Evansville 3

Hunter Hines' first home run of the season highlighted a strong offensive showing as Mississippi State secured a series win against Evansville. The Bulldogs got six scoreless innings from Khal Stephen who struck out three Purple Aces. Jordan had another two hits while driving in four runs.

Game 3: Mississippi State 13, Evansville 3

Mississippi State completed the sweep with an eight-inning win Sunday. Jordan started the scoring with his fourth home run in as many games. Connor Hujsak followed him up shortly after in the first inning with a three-run shot to stretch MSU's lead early. Jurrangelo Cijntje ran into some trouble in the fourth, but the three-run frame was his lone blemish in a six-inning outing.
