Millsap takes down Dublin on football field and volleyball court

Oct. 17—MILLSAP — The Millsap High School football and volleyball teams hosted district rival Dublin in each respective sport Friday night with success on both fronts.

First, the Lady Bulldogs took the court after scoring a stunning five-set win at Brock in its previous outing. In Friday's match, the Lady Bulldogs took care of business in straight sets by a final score of 25-5, 25-17 and 25-6.

Even though the Dublin Lady Lions are at the bottom of the district, head coach Kylie Serrato called for her team's A-game and got just that despite facing better resistance from the visitors in the second set.

In addition to collecting the victory, senior setter Jolee Van Dyke recorded a milestone achievement in tallying 2,000 career assists, something she knows she could not accomplish without the team around her.

"Ever since I was six years old, I knew I wanted to become a setter," Van Dyke said. "Nothing is possible without my hitters, so I want to give a huge congrats to them. I can't wait to see what we all do in the playoffs. This program means a lot to me because of all the effort and determination in everyone. We all strive to be better not only for ourselves, but for our teammates. No ball touches the ground and nobody gives up no matter how hard the game is."

Van Dyke had 18 assists to go with 12 digs, four kills and three aces while junior Morgan Kimbrell recorded a game-high 12 kills.

The Lady Bulldogs (19-18, 8-3) continued their district slate at Breckenridge on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Bulldog football team recorded its second district victory with a 49-14 triumph over the Dublin Lions.

Bulldogs dominate Dublin

Following their impressive 35-22 home win over Comanche, the Bulldogs defended their home field again with a blowout victory that saw Millsap take a commanding 49-0 lead. Millsap signal-caller C.R. Tippie completed all six of his pass attempts for 130 yards and one touchdown — a 47-yarder to senior Caden Pitt — with no turnovers. Tippie also registered a rushing touchdown on three carries for 18 yards.

Millsap saw two players go for more than 100 yards on the ground in senior Kai Hanog and junior Reid Green. Hanog compiled 116 yards on eight carries that included a 72-yard touchdown while Green logged 16 carries for 134 yards and two scores.

The Bulldog defense was stifling in its efforts against Dublin, tallying 76 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, five sacks and three turnovers as a team. Senior defensive lineman Walter Bagley had a standout performance with four tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery that he returned 35 yards to help set up a Millsap touchdown drive.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0) will take the field again at 7 p.m. Friday at Eastland, their first road contest in district play.
