Mike McDaniel is a 'huge fan' of Dolphins' glorious, elegant, celebrated throwback uniforms

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins are going to unwrap their glorious, elegant, celebrated throwback uniforms and helmets for Sunday's home game against the Patriots.

Numerous polls have revealed that an overwhelming percentage of fans and players love them so much they would prefer to see them as a primary uniform set.

On Wednesday, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged that, yes, he, too, really likes Miami's sublime, fashionable and classic uniforms and helmets.

"I'm a really a huge fan of our uniforms that we have," McDaniel said. "I'm a huge fan of the throwbacks. I think we're fortunate to have an iconic logo. Historically, the whole idea of throwback uniforms, I think benefits us and is tailored to us, you know, specifically."

McDaniel understands the nostalgia involved in the threads.

"That's my whole childhood, it's what I picture, so, it's cool, when we're, when we have those on deck, and those are, they're always fun to play in," McDaniel said. "But, you know, I love our uniforms, too. So it's a win-win for sure."

The Dolphins will wear white throwback uniforms on Sunday.

One poll conducted on the former Twitter by Palm Beach Poll revealed that 92% of fans would like the throwbacks to become permanent.

Former coach Brian Flores, now with the Vikings, also preferred the throwbacks.

"If you want me to vote, I'll vote for the old uniforms," Flores said. "If you want me to cast a vote. If I had to choose the old or the new, I'd go with the old."

Former coach Adam Gase also regularly wore gear featuring the throwback look.

Star receiver Tyreek Hill said on a recent podcast that it is his favorite look.

The throwback jerseys have a slightly different shade of aqua that is especially appealing.

The Dolphins' throwback helmet has a traditional logo with classic stripes. And players often wear black cleats and socks with stripes, too.

Miami is also scheduled to wear the throwbacks against the Cowboys on Dec. 24.

On Wednesday, a few players threw their support behind the throwbacks.

"The colors. The logo is super cool. So I think overall just the fans love it," linebacker Jerome Baker said. "We love it. I don't think I've ever really heard anybody say they don't like this. I would like it to be the permanent choice.”

“That old-school logo is crazy," receiver Jaylen Waddle said. "They’re all white … Now, if that was up to me I would definitely have that as our every-week jersey. I like to bring that swag up."

Edge rusher Bradley Chubb said: "Clean look. Good look. The stripes, I like that look a lot. I don’t have any say in if they should be permanent…”

Standing at a nearby locker, edge rusher Jaelan Phillips laughed as he called Chubb out.

Phillips, to Chubb: “You’re already on record saying they should be on Instagram.”

One of the most historic plays in Dolphins lore occurred five years ago, while players wore throwback uniforms.

That was, of course, The Miami Miracle, with Kenyan Drake scoring on the last play to defeat the Patriots.
