His play last season sparked unusual praise from his former teammate, Michigan linebacker Mike Barrett, on Wednesday.

"He's explosive," Barrett said at the NFL combine on Wednesday. "He's a player, like, that Patrick Mahomes-type, that where, (he can) make a play at any moment. You can't just sleep on him, when you think he's down, he'll throw a ball out his butt."

Whatever that means, it definitely was a compliment.

McCarthy and Barrett are both set to participate in the 2024 NFL Combine, which started Feb. 26 in Indianapolis, although on-field evaluations don't start until Thursday.
