Mia Hoffmann cruises to 1st, Beavers and Jacks race at MSU Moorhead Twilight meet

Sep. 9—MOORHEAD — The Bemidji State and Bemidji High School cross country teams rarely make a trip to the same event.

The Minnesota State Moorhead Dragon Twilight Invitational hosted high school and collegiate teams on Friday. It was a night that saw BHS senior Mia Hoffmann claim a first-place finish and several Beavers eclipse some of the program's top marks.

Hoffmann was better than Audrey Brownell of Staples-Motley by more than 42 seconds. She took first place at 17:27.10. She led the Lumberjack girls to a ninth-place finish as a team with 252 points. Addison Maish (21:26.50, 45th), Raya Nordlund (22:13.50, 58th), Josey LaValley (22:22.10, 62nd), Claire Storey (25:38.80, 86th) and Anika Sneide (26:09.60, 87th) also ran for BHS.

Will Termont nearly joined Hoffmann on the top of the podium. He took second in the boys race with a time of 15:23.80. Isaac Schouten finished in 20th place at 16:46.20, helping the Jacks to a fifth-place score of 168. Moses Son (17:26.70, 43rd), Caleb Knott (17:37.20, 51st), Tanner Johnson (17:37.70, 52nd), Adam Allery (17:38,90, 54th) and Carson Turn (18:22.80, 78th) rounded out the day for the BHS runners.

Four BSU runners posted times inside the top 10 in program history in the 4000-meter collegiate race. Senior Mary Goodwin once again broke her own program record with a time of 14:23.80, finishing fourth overall. As a team, Bemidji State placed fourth with 105 points.

Maggie McCarthy (15:10.00, 12th), Carol Miller (15:15.30, 20th) and Nadia Vaughn (15:45.30, 30th) all cracked the program's top-10 list of best times. McCarthy now owns the fifth-best time for the Beavers. Miller is right behind her for sixth all-time, while Vaughn holds the ninth-best mark. Halsey Stuehrenberg's time of 16:21.20 was the fifth and final time that factored into the Beavers' score as she finished in 39th place.
