MHSAA bowling regional roundup: Olivet's Levi Rigelman wins singles title

Olivet’s Levi Rigelman had four games of 200 or better while finishing as the champion at a Division 3 regional.

Rigelman, a senior, edged Lakewood’s Philip Butler by a pin to claim the title with a score of 1,253.

Rigelman and Butler were among five bowlers from Greater Lansing to qualify for the singles state finals. Lakewood and Portland each had a pair of qualifiers.

In addition to Butler, Lakewood’s Lucas Beard placed fifth with a score of 1,177 to advance. Zackary McAllister was third with a score of 1,250 and Dre Cross placed seventh with a score of 1,161 for Portland to earn the final qualifying spot.

Alec McGinnis was the other top 10 placer and was 10th.

Division 1 at Grand Blane Lanes

Nick Schaberg added to his strong high school bowling career while earning a return trip to the singles state finals.

Schaberg finished as the runner-up Saturday at a Division 1 regional by rolling a six-game score of 1,363. He was one of two Rams bowlers to finish in the top seven to reach the state finals.

Mitchell DuBois also qualified for Holt and was fifth with a score of 1,294.

Division 2 at Continental Lanes

Charlotte had two bowlers qualify for the state finals, which included senior Matthew Shoemaker finishing as the singles runner-up. Shoemaker had a six-game score of 1,200 Saturday and was 16 pins behind champion Lane Malone of Sturgis.

Senior Tyler Mulvany was the other state qualifier for the Orioles and finished fifth with a pinfall total of 1,142.

Division 2 at Richfield Bowl

Owosso junior Camden Caswell qualified for the state finals with a runner-up finish Saturday. Caswell had a score of 1,399

Division 2 at Royal Scot

Mason and DeWitt each had bowlers advance to the state finals out of this regional. Mason junior Daniel Barth was third and finished with a six-game score of 1,243. He finished two pins ahead of DeWitt senior Narciso Garza.

Fowlerville junior Tyler Gordon was the other area bowling t finish in the top 10. Gordon placed 10 th with a score of 1,169.

Division 3 at Richfield Bowl

Ovid-Elsie had a pair of state singles qualifiers in juniors Brayden Gruesbeck and Gage Wiktorowski. Gruesbeck finished fourth with a score of 1,142, while Wiktorowski tied for fifth with a pinfall total of 1,131.

Division 4 at Northern Lanes

Ithaca junior Bryson LeBaron was the lone individual qualifier and placed seventh with a pinfall total of 1,049. He earned the final qualifying spot for the state finals by three pins.

Other top 10 finishers from the area included Portland St. Patrick’s TJ Chamberlain placing ninth and Ithaca junior Karter Araujo finishing 10th.

Division 2 at Spectrum Lanes

Ionia junior Trevor Hodges was the top area finisher and placed eighth at the regional with a six-game total of 1,071. He finished a pin shy of the final qualifying spot for next week’s state finals.

Division 3 at Alert Lanes

Alma sophomore Koby Shunk finished 10th at the regional with a score of 1.084.

GIRLS

Division 1 at Grand Blanc Lanes

Holt had a trio of bowlers advance to the singles state finals Saturday. Sophomore Emma Cadwell led Holt and had a six-game score of 1,223 to finish third. Junior Lola Knox was fourth with a total of 1,189 and junior Madison Rue took fifth with a score of 1,173.

Division 2 at Royal Scot

Mason had a pair of bowlers qualify for the state singles finals led by senior Olyvia Mollitor, who was the regional runner-up with a six-game total of 1,134. Junior Avery Beach was the other qualifier for the Bulldogs and finished sixth with a score of 1,066.

Division 2 at Continental Lanes

Charlotte junior Lori Jackson finished sixth to advance to next week’s singles state finals. Jackson had a six-game score of 997.

Division 4 at Northern Lanes

Ithaca and Portland St. Patrick had multiple players qualify for the state finals. Ithaca senior Breona Becker was the regional runner-up with a score of 951. Becker finished five pins ahead of teammate Nicole Hollabaugh, who was third.

Portland St. Patrick had junior Isabella Russman finish fourth with a score of 925 and junior Olivia Rockney take fifth with a pinfall total of 905.

Pewamo-Westphalia had the other qualifier from the area in senior Kennedy Cassel, who placed sixth (893).

Other area top 10 placers included P-W senior Hayden Hengesbach placing eighth and Esperansa Sandoval taking ninth.

Division 3 at Royal Scot

Olivet and Stockbridge had bowlers claim the final two qualifying spots to advance to the state finals. Olivet senior Olivia Krauss was sixth with a score of 1,032, while Stockbridge’s Cheyenee Calhoun placed fifth with a score of 1,027.

Division 2 at Richfield Bowl

Owosso senior Zoie Brandt was the top area performer and placed ninth at this regional. Brandt had a pinfall total of 992 and was seven behind the seventh-place finisher and final state finals qualifier.

Division 3 at Richfield Bowl

Corunna junior Kyra Middleton was the top placer from the area and finished 10th with a score of 930.

Division 2 at Spectrum Lanes

Ionia senior Sydney Estep placed 11th at the regional to lead area performers with a six-game total of 880.
