Who is starting for the Mets?

Justin Verlander, who is making his Citi Field debut. In two career starts as an opponent at the stadium, the right-hander has a 4.50 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.

Verlander is coming off an extremely strong second start of the year last week against the Reds. He stretched out to 104 pitches and struck out seven while allowing just one run on two hits over seven innings of work.

Through two outings, he is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts. Verlander will look to keep the high powered Rays offense at bay.

Who is starting for the Rays?

Left-hander Jalen Beeks will get the start as the opener for the Rays in this one. He hasn't thrown more than two innings in an outing yet this season and has a 5.40 ERA.

Beeks will be followed by righty Yonny Chirinos, who is expected to serve as the bulk reliever. Through six outings this season he's posted a 2.22 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.

Chirinos has struggled with walks issuing four in each of his past two outings, and a total of 10 in just 24.1 innings of work.

The Mets and Rays continue this three-game set on Wednesday night at 7:10 p.m.
