Mets reliever Jacob Rhame suspended for throwing at Phillies' Rhys Hoskins

New York Mets reliever Jacob Rhame has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for “throwing a pitch in the area of the head” of Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins, the league announced Thursday.

The incident occurred during Tuesday’s Mets-Phillies game. With two outs in the ninth inning and the Mets winning 9-0, Rhame threw a 97-mph fastball that sailed over Hoskins’ head.

The pitch led both benches to clear and exchange words.

Hoskins wound up with the last laugh as he hit a two-run home run off Rhame in the ninth inning of a 6-0 Phillies win on Wednesday night.

The homer led Hoskins to take a trot of 34.23 seconds, the longest trot recorded by Statcast.

The Mets expect Rhame to appeal, per reports.
