Memphis Grizzlies swap draft picks with Phoenix Suns, add forward Isaiah Todd | Report

The Memphis Grizzlies are finalizing a trade that will send three second-round picks to the Phoenix Suns for two first-round pick swaps and forward Isaiah Todd, ESPN reported Thursday.

The pick swaps are for 2024 and 2030. The Grizzlies will only receive the picks if they finish with a better record than the Suns and Washington Wizards in those years, based on conditions outlined in the trade that sent Bradley Beal from Washington to Phoenix last month.

Regardless of finish, the Grizzlies will send second-round picks for 2025 (via the New Orleans Pelicans), 2028 and 2029 to the Suns as part of the deal.

Since the Grizzlies already have more than 15 standard contracts on their roster, taking Todd's guaranteed deal off of the Suns' hands was likely part of the agreement to get the pick swaps. Todd is a former five-star recruit out of high school who hasn't panned out in the NBA. He was the No. 31 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he's only played in 18 games and shot 22.2% from the field in his first two seasons.

The Suns are expected to be one of the top teams in the 2024 season, but if the Grizzlies finish with a top-two seed like the past two years, they'll be in position to swap first-round spots with the Suns.

The 2030 pick swap is the bigger one to monitor. Current Suns stars Beal and Kevin Durant will be in their mid- to late-30s at this point, and Phoenix doesn't have many resources after trading most of its draft assets to acquire Beal and Durant. If the Grizzlies can manage to keep their young core together and the Wizards remain worse off, the 2030 pick swap could be advantageous.
