Memphis Grizzlies, in need of healthy bodies, sign two more players to 10-day contracts

The Memphis Grizzlies are making moves to deepen their roster amid a wave of injuries. They signed two more players to 10-day contracts via hardship exception, the team announced Tuesday morning.

Memphis was granted three hardship exceptions from the NBA because so many players are out with long-term injuries. Matthew Hurt was added to the roster for Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings, and now the Grizzlies are signing center Trey Jemison and forward Tosan Evbuomwan to 10-day contracts.

NBA teams are allowed to apply for injury hardship exceptions when at least two players are out for multiple weeks, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. With Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, Steven Adams, Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke and Jake LaRavia all nursing injuries that fit within that criteria, Memphis was able to fill three roster spots. Derrick Rose also has been out since Jan. 2 with a hamstring injury.

Jemison has been one of the best centers in the G League, averaging 10.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game for the Birmingham Squadron. At 6-foot-10, the 24-year old is known for his defensive presence. He was a two-time Conference USA All-Defensive team selection while at UAB, but was not taken in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Evbuomwan has averaged 15 points and 8.6 rebounds for the Motor City Cruise. The 6-7 forward also possesses playmaking ability and has made 34.7% of his 3-pointers in 29 G League games this season.

The Grizzlies' next game is at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Cleveland Cavaliers at FedExForum.
