Memphis football's Chris Morris in transfer portal before first season with Tigers

Chris Morris never played a game for Memphis football. He tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he’s entering the transfer portal.

“I’m officially in the portal,” Morris tweeted.

Morris committed to the Tigers football program in December after spending one season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas.

He was one of two junior college signees in December, including Chatavies "CJ" Johnson, who plays linebacker and transferred from Navarro College in Texas. Morris signed with Texas A&M as part of the 2020 class, spent one season there and transferred to Hutchison in Kansas for the 2021 season.

Morris was one of the top high school football prospects in Memphis and the country at PURE Academy. He played his senior season at West Memphis High School in Arkansas, but graduated from PURE, a home-school program.

Ahead of his senior season, Morris was ranked in the top-100 in the nation, No. 3 in Tennessee for the Class of 2020 in the 247Sports Composite and was the No. 2 offensive guard in the country.
