Memphis basketball: Penny Hardaway alters starting lineup for opener vs. Jackson State

Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway teased a starting lineup tweak or two ahead of Monday's season opener at home against Jackson State.

True to his word, the Tigers' front line featured a decidedly new look.

Nick Jourdain and Malcolm Dandridge will start against Jackson State, and projected starters Jahvon Quinerly, David Jones and Jaykwon Walton will remain in place. Caleb Mills and Jordan Brown started both home exhibition games, but both will come off the bench against Jackson State.

Jourdain is a 6-foot-9 junior forward. He spent his first three seasons at Temple, where he started 19 games last season. Dandridge is a 6-9 fifth-year senior center who has spent his entire career at Memphis. Dandridge started three games last season, including the opener against Vanderbilt and the AAC tournament game against UCF on March 10.

JAHVON QUINERLY: Alabama transfer has found happiness at Memphis. Now, he's ready to live up to the hype

Hardaway is suspended for the first three games of the season after the NCAA ruled he committed recruiting violations in 2021. Memphis assistant and veteran head coach Rick Stansbury will handle game-day coaching responsibilities in Hardaway's absence.
