Meet the Greater Lansing boys basketball Dream Team, all-area
Here is a look at the Greater Lansing high school boys basketball Dream Team and all-area selections.
Co-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
Cam Hutson
▶ School: East Lansing
▶ Year: Junior
▶ Accomplishments: The Division I prospect was named first team all-state in Division 1 by the Associated Press and to the Best of the Best team in the state by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals this season while helping the Trojans to CAAC Blue, district and regional championships. Hutson surpassed 1,000 career points this season.
Zander Woodruff
▶ School: Laingsburg
▶ Year: Senior
▶ Accomplishments: Woodruff was named the Division 3 player of the year by the AP and to the state’s Best of the Best team by BCAM. He led the area in scoring at 32.3 points per game and also averaged 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals for The Wolfpack, who won the CMAC and a district title.
DREAM TEAM
JL Branson
▶ School: East Lansing
▶ Year: Junior
▶ Accomplishments: Branson was a honorable mention all-state selection in Division 1 by BCAM. He averaged 12.0 points and 5.0 rebound for East Lansing, which won CAAC Blue, district and regional titles.
Grady Eklund
▶ School: Pewamo-Westphalia
▶ Year: Sophomore
▶ Accomplishments: Eklund averaged 24.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.4 blocks and made 44 3-pointers for the Pirates, who were the CMAC runner-up and won a district title. He was named first team all-state in Division 3 b y the AP and BCAM.
Luke Marlan
▶ School: Mason
▶ Year: Senior
▶ Accomplishments: Marlan was part of a balanced squad that had four players average double figures scoring for the CAAC Red champion Bulldogs. He averaged 12.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists and made 34 3-pointers while shooting 43% from deep.
Deunte Phifer
▶ School: Waverly
▶ Year: Senior
▶ Accomplishments: The Lansing Community College commit was named all-state in Division 1 by BCAM and helped the Warriors to a district title. He averaged 17.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks and shot 77% from the free-throw line for the Warriors.
KJ Torbert
▶ School: East Lansing
▶ Year: Sophomore
▶ Accomplishments: The guard was an AP first team all-state selection in Division 1 and also earned all-state recognition from BCAM. He averaged 17.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals for the Trojans, who won CAAC Blue, district and regional titles.
Brennan Walton
▶ School: Okemos
▶ Year: Senior
▶ Accomplishments: The 6-foot-5 post averaged 14.5 point and 7.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists while helping the Wolves finish as the CAAC Blue runner-up and to a 19-5 mark. He was named all-state in Division 1 by BCAM.
