The 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Swimming Team is revealed

Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Swimming Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff.

Swimmer of the Year

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Christine and Jonathan Lawrence

Key accomplishments: Winning Watkins Glen Invitational; placing first at sectionals in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 freestyle relay; placing fifth in states in my 50 free, eighth for my 100 free, and fourth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Future plans: My future plan is to start exploring college options over the next few months, knowing I want to swim in college, while continuing swimming with my club team.

Why she is Swimmer of the Year: Of Section V's many outstanding swimming and diving seasons, Kaleigh Lawrence separated from the pack by proving to be the area's fastest freestyler. She dropped drastic times in her individual events since her freshman season and won three section championships for her efforts. Lawrence then had the best performance of local athletes at states after podium appearances in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free relay alongside Charlotte Larzelere, Mikayla Little and Alyssa Galley.

Year: Junior

Parents: Colleen and Brian Bedford

Key accomplishment: Fastest time in Section V in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.58).

Future plans: Still a junior. Don’t know yet, but hope to swim in college.

Year: Eighth grade

Parents: Susan and Chuck Bennett

Position: Breaststroke

Key accomplishment: Swam a 1:07 in the 100 breaststroke.

Future plans: I plan to swim in college.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Urszula and Robert Bodzon

Key accomplishment: Swam a 24.76 in the 50 free.

Future plans: Study medicine.

Year: Senior

Parents: Emily Schulz and Arie Bouwens

Key accomplishment: Going 59.71 in the 100 back at states.

Future plans: I do not know what college yet but I will be studying pre-physical therapy.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Cristina and Matthew Carey

Key accomplishments: Three sectional event wins (200 medley relay, 50 free, 400 free relay) and Mercy school records in the 50 free, 500 free, and 400 free relay.

Future plans: I want to continue to further my academic and athletic abilities in high school and I hope to play a sport in college in the future.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Heather and Joe Gilbert

Key accomplishments: Placing 10th at states in the 500 free and breaking the 37-year old school record.

Future plans: My goal is to continue to swim throughout college.

Year: Junior

Parents: Amy and Brett Hogan

Key accomplishments: Receiving Class A Swimmer of the Meet after winning the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly at the Section V Championships.

Future plans: I plan on swimming in college and studying biomedical engineering.

Year: Senior

Parents: Lynn and Ricardo Huerta-Andrade

Key accomplishment: Swam the 50 free in 25.00.

Future plans: Pursue a career in dentistry.

Year: Junior

Parents: Pamela and Imre Knausz

Key accomplishments: Swam 200 freestyle in 1:53.91.

Future plans: Still deciding where I’ll go to college, but I plan to major in pre-dental and be on the swim team.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Leslie and Jeff Kotalik

Key accomplishments: Score of 499 on 11 dives at Shenendehowa Invitational.

Future plans: As a sophomore, I don't know yet, but I hope to dive at a large Division I University.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Ann and George Kunze

Position: Sprint freestyle

Key accomplishments: Swam 50 free in 24.03, and 100 free in 53.14.

Future plans: Unsure where I want to go to college.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Anna and Christopher Lombard

Key accomplishment: I’m most proud of going a 24.61 in my 50 freestyle.

Future plans: I hope to swim in college in the future.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Katie and Jamie Manciocchi

Key accomplishments: Finished second at the Section V Class A Championships in the 200 and 500 freestyle along with second in the 200 medley relay.

Future plans: I plan on attending college and I'm interested in the medical field. I look forward to the opportunity to swim at the next level.

Year: Senior

Parents: Rachele and Matthew Russell

Key accomplishments: Winning the 100 freestyle at sectional finals.

Future plans: To attend college out of New York state and study Spanish.

Year: Senior

Parents: Christine and Richard Share

Position: 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke

Key accomplishments: Breaking the 22-year-old school record in the 100 backstroke.

Future plans: Major in engineering and swim in college.

Year: Junior

Parents: Pertrice and David Wethey

Position: Freestyle

Key accomplishments: Earned three individual state qualifying times.

Future plans: I plan to go to college but I have not made my decision location yet.

Year: Junior

Parents: Jessica and Jeffrey Willis

Key accomplishments: I am most proud of being selected as Section V Class A Division I Swimmer of the Year and getting my best time in the 500 freestyle at states.

Future plans: I would like to continue my swimming career in college.

Coach of the Year

Profession: Aquatics: Marlins Swimming and others.

Varsity coaching experience: Spencerport High School, 2019-Present; Irondequoit High School, 2015-2019.
