Meet the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Track and Field Team
Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Track and Field Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff.
Co-Athlete of the Year
Camryn Cole
Year: Senior
Parents: Ebonee and Calvin Cole
Events: Sprints, jumps, relays
Key accomplishments: Five-time AGR first-teamer ran a 14.31 100 hurdles to win state Federations. Won state Division 1 long jump in a personal best 19 feet-8 inches and had a season-best high jump 5-8 at the state qualifier.
Future plans: Attending Northeastern University with biology as a probable major.
Why she is the Girls Outdoor Track Co-Athlete of the Year: Cole’s consistent dominance in three events — the 100 hurdles (fourth in the state), high jump (third in the state) and long jump (third in the state) — is unparalleled in Section V history. Her hurdles time ties for fourth all-time in Section V.
Co-Athlete of the Year
Jadyn Mullen
Year: Senior
Parents: Stacy and Chris Mullen
Events: Pentathlon
Key accomplishments: Division 2 and Federation state pentathlon champion with a Section V record 3,492 points.
Future plans: Attending Penn State to pursue a career in the medical field and will compete in its nationally ranked track program.
Why she is the Girls Outdoor Track Co-Athlete of the Year: Mullen capped a season of exceptional versatility, competing in pentathlon for the first time, by capturing the state title in the last event. She won the 800 meter run, then had to wait until her name flashed atop the Middletown High School stadium’s big board to confirm her as gold medalist and Section V record-holder. She broke a record that had stood since 1994 by 57 points.
Jillian Ambler
Year: Senior
Parents: Leslie and Bill Ambler
Events: Pentathlon
Key accomplishment: Jumped 19-1 in the long jump to break the school record and qualify for states in the pentathlon.
Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo to major in psychology and compete on the track and field team.
Ava Bagley
Year: Senior
Parents: Julie and Scott Bagley
Events: Hurdles, relays
Key accomplishments: Running 1:04.54 in the 400 hurdles at Division B1 sectionals and finishing second and fourth in both Division 2 hurdles events at states.
Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo to study business and mathematics and run track.
Elizabeth Brandt
Year: Junior
Parents: Kristen and Jeremiah Brandt
Events: Jumps
Key accomplishments: Set a personal best 18-0.75 long jump to win the sectional B2 championship. Earned a sixth-place medal in long jump at Division 2 states.
Future plans: To attend college and major in nursing.
Hannah Devine
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Anne and Matt Devine
Events: Middle distance runs, relays
Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Ran a personal best 4:43.58 in the 1,500 to make states, No. 2 on the Section V leaderboard.
Future plans: Attend college and run track.
Elaina Flaitz
Year: Senior
Parents: Michele and Edward Flaitz
Events: Hurdles
Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Fifth in the state Division 2 400 hurdles in 1:05.81, sixth on the Section V leaderboard.
Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo to major in biology.
Amelia Geck
Year: Senior
Parents: Jennifer and Michael Geck
Events: Throws
Key accomplishment: Reaching 37-6 in Division 2 shot put at states, good for a third-place medal.
Future plans: Attending Rochester Institute of Technology to study graphic design.
Corintia Griffith
Year: Junior
Parents: Lisa and Rodolfo Griffith
Events: Jumps, relays
Key accomplishments: Five-time AGR first-teamer. Second at New Balance nationals in the triple jump championship division in 41-3, coming within 2.25 inches of the Section V outdoor record.
Future plans: Study biology with a focus on veterinary medicine in college and continue to run track.
Melody Harloff
Year: Senior
Parents: Donna and James Harloff
Events: Sprints, relays
Key accomplishments: Six-time AGR first-teamer. Won four sectional Division A1 titles with a personal record in the 400 — 56.67.
Future plans: Attending Youngstown State in Ohio.
Laurel Kania
Year: Senior
Parents: Jennifer and Jerome Kania Jr.
Event: Sprints, jumps
Key accomplishment: Cleared 5-5 to win sectional B2 high jump, third on the Section V leaderboard.
Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo with a probable major in business.
Zoé Marcus
Year: Senior
Parents: Katherine and Paul Marcus
Events: Middle distance runs, relays
Key accomplishments: Six-time AGR first-teamer. Set four school records throughout high school running career. Medaled in 800 at states in 2:11.47, No. 1 on Section V leaderboard.
Future plans: Attending Amherst College to major in physics.
Ay’rianna Moore
Year: Junior
Parents: Goldie and Lance Moore
Events: Sprints, relays
Key accomplishments: Eight-time AGR first-teamer. Sixth in Division 1 400 at states.
Future plans: Hoping to attend a Division 1 school to continue running track and major in kinesiology or exercise science.
Kaylee Oswald
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Katie and James Oswald
Events: Throws
Key accomplishments: Won state Division 2 shot put in 37-10 and fourth in Federations with a personal and Section V best 39-3.5.
Future plans: Undecided but wants to attend college for biology and pre-chiropractic studies.
Kyra Pellegrino
Year: Senior
Parents: Karen and Lenny Pellegrino
Events: Steeplechase, racewalk and distance runs
Key accomplishments: Nine-time AGR first-teamer. Qualified for states in the 2,000 steeplechase and placed fourth at New Balance nationals in the mile racewalk.
Future plans: Attending Siena College to study psychology and compete in NCAA Division 1 cross country, track and racewalking.
Campbell Riley
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Jessica and John Riley
Events: Steeplechase, middle distance runs.
Key accomplishments: Two-time AGR first-teamer. Broke five minutes in the 1,500 — 4:58 ― at a Monroe County meet at Batavia and ran 7:20.13 in the 2,000 meter steeplechase at states.
Future plans: Run cross country and track in college.
Haylie Smith
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Laura and Scott Smith
Events: Middle and distance runs, relays
Key accomplishments: Six-time AGR first-teamer. Fourth in the Glavin Memorial 3,000 race at Hilton’s Runnin' Cadet Classic in personal best 10:06. Qualified for states in 3,000.
Future plans: Undecided, but planning to run in college.
Jayda Solomon
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Marjarie and Thomas Kanaley
Events: Sprints, jumps, relays
Key accomplishments: Medaling (sixth) in the Division 2 100 at states and qualifying for states in three events -- 100, 200 and long jump.
Future plans: To play soccer and/or run track in college and study to become a therapist or counselor.
Matilde Spagna
Year: Senior
Host parents: Lisa and Michael Cerretto
Event: Pole vault
Key accomplishments: Italian national age-group champion set a personal record and Section V best 11-6 at sectional A1 championships. Fourth at D1 states, sixth in Federations.
Future plans: An exchange student, she will be returning to Italy for senior year of high school.
Elizabeth Tytler
Year: Sophomore
Parents: Christa and Matthew Tytler
Events: Middle distance runs, relays
Key accomplishments: Won the 800 and 1,500 A2 sectionals and competed at states and nationals with the 3,200 relay team.
Future plans: Undecided.
Coach of the Year
Christy Moore
Profession: Fifth-grade teacher at Penfield’s Scribner Road Elementary School.
Varsity coaching experience: Started coaching modified cross country and track in Fairport in 2008 with Charlie Lowe. In 2013 became varsity girls cross country head coach. In 2018 started coaching varsity girls distance runners on the track team, and then in 2022 became girls varsity track head coach.
Family: Husband, Dan Moore, SUNY Geneseo cross country coach.
