Meet the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Baseball Team
Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Baseball Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff.
Player of the Year
James Capellupo III
Year: Senior
Parents: Michelle Bissonnette and James Capellupo Jr.
Position: Pitcher
Key accomplishments: 0.26 earned run average., 0.33 WHIP, 17 strikeouts during no- hitter, 3 one-hitters and most shutouts in Section V history.
Future plans: Pitch at Division 1 University of Massachusetts-Lowell on a baseball scholarship.
Why he is the AGR Player of the Year: Right-handed pitcher was dominant all season in Monroe County Division I, where more than one coach believes is one of the best or competitive in Section V, if not the state.
Bryceton Berry
Year: Senior
Parents: Jennifer and Joshua Berry
Positions: Shortstop/third baseman/right-handed pitcher
Key accomplishment: 110 strikeouts pitching.
Future plans: Attend Flagler College for baseball and business.
Evan Brock
Year: Senior
Parents: Patricia and Vincent Brock
Position: Shortstop
Key accomplishments: I'm most proud of being named AGR back-to-back years.
Future plans: Next year I will be going to Monroe Community College where I will play baseball and study finance. I plan on transferring from MCC to a four-year school.
Josh Butka
Year: Senior
Parents: Deborah and Edward Butka
Position: Shortstop/Pitcher
Key accomplishment: .400 batting average.
Future plans: Attend SUNY Cortland to study sports management.
Paul Byrne
Year: Junior
Parents: Brett and Michael Byrne
Position: Right-handed pitcher/Shortstop
Key accomplishment: 1.46 earned run average.
Future plans: Go to college and continue playing baseball.
Jack Cannon
Year: Senior
Parents: Catherine and Brian Cannon
Positions: First baseman/Outfielder/Left-handed pitcher
Key accomplishment: .402 batting average this season.
Future plans: Attend Le Moyne College for accounting and continue playing baseball.
Carter Fink
Year: Senior
Parents: Victoria Bach and Aaron Fink
Positions: Pitcher/Infield
Key accomplishments: 62 strikeouts and five pitching wins.
Future plans: Attend Niagara University to play Division I baseball and study business.
Ian Goodness
Year: Senior
Parents: Lea and Nate Goodness
Positions: Pitcher/Infielder
Key accomplishment: 139 strikeouts pitching.
Future plans: Attend Finger Lakes Community College to play baseball and study engineering.
Connor Gresens
Year: Senior
Parents: Jill and Nicholas Gresens
Positions: Pitcher/Catcher
Key accomplishment: Allowed three earned runs through 33.2 innings.
Future plans: Play baseball and study animal science at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Carson Joint
Year: Senior
Parents: Katie and Harold Joint
Position: Catcher
Key accomplishment: .426 batting average.
Future plans: Attend SUNY Cortland.
Steven Kraus
Year: Junior
Parents: Wendy and Rob Kraus
Positions: Left-handed pitcher/Infielder/Outfielder/Right-handed pitcher
Key accomplishments: Two-way player with a .403 batting average, 3 home runs and struckout 38 as a pitcher.
Future plans: Committed to Binghamton University.
Dominic Kurmis
Year: Senior
Parents: Anna and Robert Kurmis
Position: Catcher
Key accomplishments: 0.68 earned run average.
Future plans: Undecided.
Sam Miller
Year: Junior
Parents: Amy and Scott Miller
Positions: Centerfielder/Pitcher
Key accomplishment: High batting average in a very competitive class.
Future plans: I don’t know where I’m going yet but I plan on playing baseball somewhere.
Connor Osier
Year: Junior
Parents: Fiona and Keith Osier
Position: Pitcher
Key accomplishment: 83 strikeouts.
Future plans: I plan on attending college to play baseball.
Michael Sardou
Year: Junior
Parents: Tammy Jo and J. Michael Sardou
Positions: Third baseman/First baseman/Pitcher
Key accomplishments: 30 runs batted in.
Future plans: Undecided but wish to play baseball.
Matthew Wilmarth
Year: Junior
Parents: Jaclyn and Steve Wilmarth
Position: Right-handed pitcher
Key accomplishments: 76 strikeouts and a 1.03 earned run average.
Future plans: Committed to play baseball at Brown University.

Profession: Business owner selling baseball and softball equipment at Valle Sporting Goods.
Varsity coaching experience: Northstar Christian Academy 2018-Present.
Family: Wife, Ashley Valle; daughter, Ava Valle.
