Pittsburgh Steelers fans can rejoice with the news that Maurkice Pouncey has been cleared to fully participate with the team.

Having Pouncey back on the field not only helps him get in shape for the season, but his teammates as well. The Steelers have benefitted from great leadership, better blocking and higher intensity with Pouncey in the middle.

Pouncey is no stranger to injury. Since getting drafted by the Steelers 18th overall in 2010, Pouncey has missed significant time with serious injuries. Most recently, Pouncey missed the entire 2015 season due to a broken ankle he sustained in week three of the preseason against Green Bay.

With the injury-ridden history behind him, Pouncey is more than ready to get on the field and get back to his Pro Bowl-level play that he is accustomed to when healthy.

“I am full go. I am not missing anything,” said Pouncey. “I am ready to come out here and play, each day at a time. I am great now. Everything is good. I appreciate all the doctors and trainers for everything they have done. They did a great job.”

Although he didn’t play last year, Pouncey didn’t miss a beat in preparation. It was thought that Pouncey could have made a comeback in the latter portion of the 2015 season, but he never felt 100 percent. Playing spectator is never fun when you’re paid to play, but Pouncey watched his team and saw the talented roster.

“They did a great job last year,” Pouncey said about his teammates. “I was rooting them on. They kept me involved. They came over every Thursday to watch film. They kept me thinking about the bright side of things. It was good to have them. We are great. A lot of guys have played. A lot of guys are accomplished. I think we do a good job playing well together, and we are ready to keep building each year.”

With the focus and preparation that Pouncey has put in this year, I pray to the football gods that he doesn’t get injured this year. Pouncey has been the heart and soul of this offensive line and if the Steelers do win the Super Bowl, it would be awesome to see Pouncey with the team.
