Marshall-Radford at The Greenbrier Friday night

Nov. 9—Two seasons removed from basketball making its Greenbrier debut on the high school level, college will take the stage Friday night.

Marshall will take on Radford in Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier resort. Tip-off will be 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.

The game came about as a partnership between The Greenbrier and Intersport announced in August that will bring major college basketball annually to the resort.

An early season tournament is set to be created next year.

The Greenbrier's foray into basketball began with the Battle for the Springhouse high school tournament in Feb. 2022. The ballroom was converted into a basketball gym to create a unique setting.

The matchup between the Thundering Herd and the Highlanders should be a good one.

The Thundering Herd (1-0) is coming off Monday's 89-73 win over Queens in its season opener. A significant portion of the Herd's output came from players making Marshall debuts.

Kevon Voyles was the team's leading scorer with 18 points, added to six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Nate Martin had 15 points and nine rebounds, and Cam Crawford came off the bench for 14 points, three steals and three rebounds in 22 minutes.

Veterans Kam Curfman (15 points, five assists) and Obinna Anochilli-Killen (14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) rounded out the double figures scorers.

Radford, meanwhile, is 0-1 after Monday's 86-70 loss to No. 19 North Carolina.

DaQuan Smith and Kenyon Giles both had 18 points for the Highlanders. Bryan Antoine had 13 points and three steals, and Justin Archer grabbed nine rebounds.

Radford was picked to finish second in the Big South Conference in the preseason.

Hunter Castleberry, a member of the 2021 Class AAA state champion team at George Washington, is a redshirt freshman for the Highlanders.

Former West Virginia University player Darris Nichols is in his third season as Radford head coach.

According to the Greenbrier website, the game is a sellout. Those who reserved tickets must pick them up at will call at Chesapeake Bay, located next to Colonial Hall, starting Friday at noon. Parking will be available at the Train Lot across the street from the Greenbrier's main entrance, also starting at noon. Fans will be shuttled to Colonial Hall.
