Marlins manager Don Mattingly out for Yankees series after testing positive for COVID-19
Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly tested positive for COVID-19 before Saturday's game and will be out for at least two days, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald.
Bench coach James Rowson will fill in as Miami's manager for the rest of the team's series against the New York Yankees.
The 60-year-old Mattingly was reportedly vaccinated in mid-April, but received a COVID-19 test after reporting mild symptoms when he arrived at the ballpark. While he tested positive, the rest of the coaching staff and players tested negative in subsequent rapid antigen testing.
Mattingly will miss the rest of the games against his old team, however, his status for the Marlins' following their four-game series against the New York Mets is less clear. Mattingly isn't the first MLB manager to encounter problems with COVID-19, as Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black missed eight games following the All-Star Game due to protocols.
The Marlins currently sit in last place in the NL East at 44-59 and were sellers at the trade deadline, trading away key players like Starling Marte, Adam Duvall and Yimi Garcia.
