March Madness: President Biden goes with his alma mater to win both NCAA tournaments
President Joe Biden went for sentimentality over practicality when filling out his 2022 NCAA tournament brackets.
Biden picked his alma mater Delaware to win both the men’s and women’s tournaments this season. Delaware was a No. 15 seed in the men’s tournament and a No. 13 seed in the women’s tournament.
The Blue Hens got matchups against teams nearby in the first rounds too. The men’s team lost 80-60 to No. 2 Villanova from Philadelphia on Friday and the women play No. 4 Maryland in the first round. Biden got his bachelor's degree from Delaware before getting his J.D. at Syracuse.
And while we appreciate Biden supporting his school, we're pretty sure he knew that his public bracket wasn't going to be winning any March Madness pools. No seed lower than No. 11 has made the Final Four on the men's side while the lowest seed to make the women's Final Four is a No. 9.
I’m proud of all the athletes competing in this year’s NCAA tournament. But at the end of the day, I’m a @UDelaware guy. Go Blue Hens! pic.twitter.com/fG89BfvNAP

Biden picked the women to beat Villanova in the national title game. The Villanova women’s basketball team is a No. 11 seed and plays BYU in the first round. Biden has Villanova beating No. 1 overall seed South Carolina in the Final Four while the Delaware women beat No. 2 seed UConn in Biden’s other semifinal matchup.
On the men’s side, the president went with Gonzaga, Kentucky and Wisconsin as his other three Final Four teams. As you know, Biden is already down a Final Four team as Kentucky was knocked out in the first round Thursday night by No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s. With Kentucky and Delaware now out of the tournament, Biden's bracket lost half of the Final Four within the first 30 hours of the tournament.
Biden went 11-5 in the first round of the men’s tournament on Thursday. He also lost UConn, Boise State, Iowa and San Diego State from his bracket on the first day. The president had Iowa and UConn advancing to the Sweet 16.
