Managers should add J.D. Davis where available

RYAN BOYER: The Mets have been playing without their projected full lineup this season for much of the year. But now they look to be back at full strength with the long-awaited return of JD Davis. Davis had been on the shelf since May 1 with a sprained left middle finger, an injury which lingered on much longer than expected. He also missed time before that with a separate left hand ailment. However, Davis looked and felt good while on his rehab assignment, clearing the way for his return to the Major League roster.

Davis has been arguably the Mets' best hitter this season when healthy. And the statcast numbers have backed up the production. That's nothing new, of course, as Davis has been a statcast darling since the Mets acquired him in a trade with the Astros a couple of years ago.

There would seem to be a bit of a question as to whether Davis will play every day. Jonathan Villar has given solid production to the Mets and is a better defender at third base. Although comparing him to Davis isn't exactly a high bar to clear. Ultimately, the Mets figure to deal with Davis's demons in order to get his bat in the lineup. He should be picked up in any leagues where he was dropped.
