'Man, I want to thank Cincinnati': Watch Joey Votto's farewell video to Reds fans

Joey Votto sent out a farewell to Reds fans on X, formerly Twitter, during his long offseason looking for a job. Votto signed a minor league deal with his hometown Toronto Blue Jays, and will make $2 million if he makes the roster.

The morning after the Cincinnati Reds announced they declined to pick up the club option for star Joey Votto's contract, the first baseman posted a farewell video to his social media accounts.

Votto spent 17 seasons with the Reds and is now a free agent.

"Hey, happy Sunday morning," Votto said to begin the video. "I wanted to speak directly to you all. ... If this is the last time I'll play as a I Cincinnati Red, I want to speak out loud my gratitude. I want to thank the community. Man, I want to thank Cincinnati for being so welcoming."

There's a chance Votto could return to Cincinnati after testing the free-agent market, but it's unlikely.

“I just think with the players we have on our roster right now, there’s no playing time," Nick Krall, Reds president of baseball operations said yesterday, which was reported by Reds beat writer Gordon Wittenmyer.

The most cost the Reds $7 million as opposed to the $20 million Votto would've been due this coming season.
