Man (Lane Kiffin) yells at cloud (Texas A&M) for being fluffier from miles away

Amid Texas A&M’s annual recruiting pool party last weekend, one piece of wild social media-based news you may have missed regarding Ole Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin’s tweeting habits (or whatever you call it now) reached a new level of weirdness.

Kiffin, who on Saturday quote tweeted an article from ESPN about Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s recent comments regarding the new Saudi Pro League’s monetary advantage after Cristiano Ronaldo, who at the age of 38 signed the most significant football salary in history at €200 million per year, while several other stars have received large contracts and transfer fees.

According to Nick Gray of the Clarion Ledger, the fund for said transactions is the exact fund utilized during the recent wave of money spent in LIV Golf.

“At least four of the SPL’s teams are owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund controlled by the country’s ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It’s the same fund that has bankrolled LIV Golf.”

Well, instead of just reading the article for what was; an interesting piece on the changing landscape of fame over ability and the Saudi’s financial impact on the sports market, Kiffin just had to go there, tweeting,

….. …? fill in the blank; it’s Texas A&M: Lane Kiffin’s apparent mortal enemy, and what I can glean from his snarky comments is those buried sad feelings about not playing the Aggies in 2024 have come back as the 2023 season nears. So, of course, bringing back the conspiracy theory created by Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban concerning Jimbo Fisher “buying” the Aggies 2022 recruiting class is Kiffin’s bread and butter.

Texas A&M has become a leader in legal NIL initiatives, including the 12th Man+ Collective, which has since been replicated by multiple programs in the Southeast, including Ole Miss’s The Grove Collective.

We get it, Lane; this isn’t just about NIL-based jealousy, but we all agree that it just won’t be the same in the division-less SEC, and look, you’ve had Jimbo Fisher’s number for the last two seasons, so congratulations on that.

Traveling to Oxford in early November will undoubtedly be a challenge for an Aggie team that is hopefully in the midst of a rebound campaign, and if a nine, ten, or possibly eleven-win season is in the cards, getting past one of the, yes, best offensive play-callers in the game is pivotal. See? Credit where credit is due.

Keep on tweeting, Lane!
