Making a splash! Meet the Ocala Star-Banner's 2023 All-County Boys Swimming team

Marion County swimmers hunted county records like sharks. Nine swim boys records were crushed this season, including a 15-year-old 200-yard freestyle pace set by University of Florida swimmer Scott Sommer.

Seven of those nine shattered records belong to swimmers of the West Port Wolf Pack. The boy's team took home its second-consecutive MCIAC swim trophy.

On May 21st, every Athlete of the Year winner will be announced at the MESPY's. Don’t hold your breath too long. We’re announcing our top three finalists with their accolades and feats to hold you over until the big day.

After a long season, it's time to reward the county's top performers for their efforts. Below you'll find the all-county boys swim team.

LaBonte's record-breaking season saw the 200-yard IM time shrink by .88 seconds at the MCIAC meet. The junior never missed the podium during a major swim meet this season. He captured first place in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 200-yard IM at districts. LaBonte took second in both events at the regional meet. He'd follow up the performance with two more silver medals at the state meet.

Washington's season was filled with personal-best and season-best times. The Trinity Catholic started off his big season by breaking the 100-yard backstroke record he set earlier in his career and broke a nearly 10-year-old 200-yard freestyle Catholic state record. At the 1A district meet he took first place in 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. At the regional meet, he finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. At the 1A state meet he parlayed both event into personal bests and made the podium for the 100-yard backstroke.

Wolfe was in the record-breaking business this season. The West Port senior capture two relay records and two individual records, including ones he set in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard fly. At the district meet he captured silver medals in the sprint events. Wolfe improved his 50-yard freestyle time to take first place at regionals and earned a spot at the state meet in the 100-yard fly. He made the podium at the state meet with a personal best of 21.16 in the 500-yard freestyle.
