Video Transcript

MATT GOTHARD: Welcome back to Mad Bets, everybody. I am joined by the Jay Busbee to help talk through The Match III, this Friday, November 27, at Stone Canyon Golf Club. We got Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley as the underdogs, plus 120, against Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry, minus 167, as the favorites. I got to ask you right off the bat. How is the only professional golfer an underdog in this?

JAY BUSBEE: Yeah, that's, that jumps right out. The guy who's got three green jackets from the Masters is, is an underdog here. It's not because of him. It's because of his partner, Charles Barkley. We all know what his swing is like. You've seen it on YouTube videos, you've seen it on SportsCenter. It's horrendous. It is terrible, to coin a phrase. And because this is an alternate shot sort of format, he's going to be out there swinging an awful lot. And that's why he's dragging Mickelson back down with him.

MATT GOTHARD: Do you see any value on Mickelson at plus 120, or is that a, is it a stay away?

JAY BUSBEE: I absolutely see value on Mickelson, simply because his entire specialty is making shots that no one thinks he ought to make. He won a Masters that way. And he's gotten himself into so much trouble that I don't think that Barkley getting him into trouble is going to be that unfamiliar for him. It's actually a perfect partner for Barkley, because Mickelson just specializes in these kinds of recovery shots, that no one else would even try, much less make.

MATT GOTHARD: Yeah, hopefully the weather is a little bit better than the last time they were out there, when him and Tom Brady were in the middle of a monsoon, it seemed like. What do you think, what can we see from Steph Curry? I haven't seen much of him on the golf course. I know he has a little bit of game.

JAY BUSBEE: He's, he's got a great game. I mean, he's really, he's probably, of the three pro athletes here, he's probably the, he's by far the best golfer. He's played a couple of times on the Korn Ferry Tour, which is kind of a lower level PGA Tour. He's got a lot of experience. He's actually very involved with the PGA Tour. He's got a tournament in his own name coming to San Francisco next year. So yeah, he is going to be a strong and tough competitor. He's not Tiger Woods. He's not the same player that Peyton Manning had in the last match, but he's certainly going to hold his own in this one.

MATT GOTHARD: And lastly, Eli Manning is going to be making some appearances in the booth. Do you think that helps or hurts Peyton? I know Peyton tends to do well when Eli Manning is watching.

JAY BUSBEE: Yeah, I think that any bit of competition is going to help. I mean, Peyton is very much eager to play this. He's, he's all on board for this. He's a six handicap, so he's certainly not quite in Curry's or Mickelson's class. But he's going to do very well. But the fun aspect of this, and I don't even know how you adjust for this on a betting perspective, but the fun aspect of this is the way that these guys can get underneath each other's skin, and hopefully, hopefully raise each other's game. So with Eli in the booth, with Eli in his ear, I'm hoping that Peyton Manning would step up and deliver a little bit of magic.

MATT GOTHARD: That's the value of live betting. You've got to love it. Jay, thanks so much for stopping by. I'm really excited for The Match III, this Friday, November 27.

JAY BUSBEE: My pleasure.
