Luis Gonzalez, Randy Johnson to throw first pitch before Game 3 of World Series

Two key players from the Arizona Diamondbacks 2001 World Series Championship team will return to Chase Field on Monday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the team's three-game homestand in the 2023 World Series.

Major League Baseball announced Sunday afternoon that Luis Gonzalez and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson will return to the field to throw the first pitch before Game 3.

In 2001, Gonzalez delivered the walk-off, series-clinching hit over the New York Yankees infield to score Jay Bell and give Arizona the World Series title. Johnson pitched in the Game 7 win and was named World Series co-MVP.

For Game 4 on Tuesday, Masters Champion, Arizona State University alumnus and Phoenix resident Jon Rahm will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

The 2023 Fall Classic is tied 1-1 as the Diamondbacks play host to the Texas Rangers at 5 p.m. (Arizona time) Monday at Chase Field. The game will be broadcast live beginning at 5 p.m. on FOX, FOX Deportes and ESPN Radio.
