Louisville vs. Virginia Tech football gameday guide: Cards look to stay unbeaten at home

The chance to go to the ACC championship game is becoming even more real for Louisville, but you won't hear the 15th-ranked Cardinals talk too much about it. After losing to Pitt, they know the importance of focusing on the game at hand.

"If we just take care of what we need to do, and win our game each week, prepare for it, go out on Saturday, come out with a win, we'll be fine," Louisville defensive lineman Mason Reiger said. "We'll be in the position that we wanted to be from the beginning."

Currently second in the ACC standings, Louisville (7-1, 4-1 ACC) will look to add another conference win to its resume when Virginia Tech comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday at L&N Stadium.

The Cardinals have only beaten the Hokies (4-4, 3-1) twice in eight meetings with Virginia Tech posting a 42-35 victory over Louisville in the last meeting in 2020. This year, U of L enters the matchup with its best record since 2016 and ranked among the top 15 teams in the country in every major college football poll.

"Looking at anything other than the next game, as a team and as coaches, can get you in trouble," U of L coach Jeff Brohm said, "and "I've been burnt enough times, and I'm sure others have as well. It's as simple as (saying), 'Let's improve this week and get better and try to go win this next football game.' I think looking at whatever happens at the end is great when the season's over, but until then, for us, it's how to find a way to beat Virginia Tech."
