Louisville football ends regular season 14th in College Football Playoff rankings

Louisville’s second loss of the season dropped it to 14th in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

It’s the third time in program history the squad has ended the regular season in the rankings. In 2016, the Cardinals were 13th to end the regular season and 21st at the end of the 2014 regular season. Of the three years, this season is the first one in which U of L has totaled 10 wins. Louisville started this season 6-0.

The Cardinals were also ranked 14th in the US LBM Coaches Poll and 15th in the AP poll to end the regular season. Louisville is scheduled to face Florida State in the ACC championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After being projected to finish eighth in the ACC, U of L went 7-1 to finish second in the conference and 10-2 overall. FSU, ranked fourth in the CFP rankings, ended the regular season 8-0 in the ACC and 12-0 overall. The Seminoles have won 15 conference titles, but Saturday will be the Cardinals’ first ACC championship game appearance. FSU is a 2 ½-point favorite to win the game, per DraftKings.

Clemson and N.C. State are also among the ACC’s ranked teams at 23rd and 19th, respectively.
