Louisiana football at Troy: Score, live updates

Louisiana football won't fall short of reaching bowl eligibility at Troy on Saturday (2:30 p.m., NFL Network).

But coach Michael Desormeaux and his players would rather go ahead and pick up their sixth win of the season and not have to sweat a must-win situation in the final game of the regular season next weekend against Louisiana-Monroe.

The Trojans (8-2, 5-1) clinched the Sun Belt Conference West division championship with its win over ULM last week, so the annual goal for UL (5-5, 2-4) to win the division is out of the question.

So the next big one is playing in a sixth straight bowl game. The Cajuns have already failed on their first two attempts to get to win No. 6, losing at Arkansas State and at home last Thursday to rival Southern Miss.

This week will be the toughest task in their pursuit. Troy arguably has the best defense in the Sun Belt and in the last five games, it's given up 40 points.

Louisiana's offense has been inconsistent at best this season and it'll need its best outing to have a shot at knocking off the Trojans on the road.
