Loudonville-Perryville Sports Hall of Fame adds 19 Members

LOUDONVILLE − On Saturday, 19 members were inducted into the L-P All-Sports Hall of Fame to highlight a triple-header basketball afternoon at Loudonville.

“The Loudonville-Perrysville community is proud of our rich athletic history,” said L-P athletic director Tyler Bates. “It’s always a pleasure to have the opportunity to recognize these players, coaches and contributors.”

This is the second year of a renewed effort to honor selected members of the HOF after a long layoff.

“The 2023 class features graduates spanning 85 years,” added Bates. “From both Loudonville and Perrysville High Schools. High level coaches, state championship athletes and contributors who have provided valuable resources for the sustainment of our athletic programs.”

The following were inducted:

Amy Zuercher - LHS Class of 1992

  • Member of 1991 State Champion Volleyball team, state runner-up basketball (1992) and softball teams (1991).

  • School record holder in basketball for assists in a career (554) and assists in a season (232).

  • 2nd-Team All-Ohioan in softball as a senior.

Andie Heffelfinger - LHS Class of 2015

  • Mid-Buckeye Conference Player of the Year in volleyball and basketball.

  • 2-time All-Ohio selection in basketball (Junior/Senior seasons).

  • Most Valuable Player of Ohio North-South State All-Star Basketball Game as a senior.

Andy Van Horn - LHS Class of 2003

  • 1st-Team All-Ohio Boys Basketball player as a senior.

  • Mohican Area Conference Boys Basketball Player of the Year and leading scorer.

  • Medalist for Mohican Area Conference Golf Match.

Austin VanSickle - LHS Class of 2016

  • 1st-Team All-Ohioan in football as a senior and 2nd-Team All-Ohioan in football as a junior.

  • Member of state runner-up 4x100 and 6th place 4x200 relays in 2015.

  • All-Conference in basketball and baseball.

Bill Herman - LHS Class of 1973

  • Graduated as the LHS school record holder in the 100 meter dash.

  • State Champion softball coach in 2001 with a runner-up finish in 2002.

  • 189-83 career record as head softball coach at LHS.

Blake Cary - LHS Class of 2015

  • 1st-Team All-Ohio Football player in 2014.

  • 4th Place at OHSAA State Wrestling Meet as a senior in 2015.

  • Member of 2014 Regional Finalist in football and 7th place, state-placing wrestling team in 2015.

Bob Hughes - PHS Class of 1961

  • Graduated from Perrysville HS as the Ashland County record holder in the 440 yard dash and pole vault.

  • 2-time member of the Ashland County All-Star Football team as quarterback.

  • 4-year starting point guard for the basketball team, earning All-Area awards from the Ashland Times-Gazette and Mansfield News Journal.

Chad Beachler - LHS Class of 1989

  • Loudonville's first wrestler to advance to the State Championship match, finishing as the state runner-up in 1989.

  • Wrestler of the Year selection by TG and numerous other media outlets.

  • All-District linebacker for state semi-finalist 1988 football team.

Jim Brewer - LHS Class of 1966

  • Served as editor of the Loudonville Times for a bulk of the years spanning from 1972-2014.

  • Covered LHS athletics for the better part of 6 decades.

  • Personality stories highlighted hundreds of standout coaches and athletes over the years.

John Van Camp - LHS Class of 1981

  • Standout quarterback, earning All-Area honors from TG.

  • Leading scorer and rebounder for LHS basketball teams as a junior and senior and TG Player of the Year.

  • School record holder in high jump, 4x400 relay and 400 meter run. All-Ohioan in 400 meter dash as a senior (5th place).

Kay Atterholt - LHS Class of 1937

  • Led Loudonville Boys Basketball to 30-0 undefeated regular season stretch from 1935-1937.

  • Area's leading scorer in basketball as a sophomore, junior and senior.

  • Standout 2-way football player at LHS.

Mark Schlabach

  • 105-18 career record as the Loudonville Boys (4 years) and Girls (1 year) basketball coach.

  • Led boys basketball program to the OHSAA State Final 4 in 2004 and 2005.

  • Guided boys basketball to league championships in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Misty Wells - LHS Class of 1992

  • Member of 1991 State Champion Volleyball team and state runner-up basketball (1992) and softball teams (1991).

  • All-Ohio Basketball player in 1992.

  • Graduated with the school records for points in a game (49) and career points (1,411).

Sarah Wickline - LHS Class of 2016

  • 3-time All-Ohio selection in softball - including 1st-team selections in 2014 and 2015.

  • School record holder for hits in a season, hits in a career, batting average in a season, RBI's in a season, RBI's in a career, home runs in a season and HRs in a career.

  • 2-time TG Softball Player of the Year.

Sierra Wright - LHS Class of 2013

  • School record holder in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash and as a member of the 4x200 meter relay.

  • 3-time All-Ohioan in track and field. State runner-up in the 400 meter dash in 2013. 3rd Place finish in 400 meter dash in 2012 and member of 8th place 4x200 meter relay team in 2013.

  • Mid-Buckeye Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a senior.

Tom and Jennie Stake

  • Longtime sponsors of Meet the Teams events at Loudonville High School.

  • Significant financial contributors to a number of facility projects, including the recent track refurbishment at Redbird Stadium.

  • Supporters of local groups including the Cleo Redd Museum, the Ohio Theater and the Loudonville Public Library.

Trevor Scott - LHS Class of 2005

  • Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the News Journal as a senior.

  • All-Ohio Basketball player who helped lead teams to State Final 4 as a junior and senior.

  • All-Conference in golf and baseball who earned 11 total letters at LHS.

Tristan Bender - LHS Class of 2015

  • 2-time All-Ohio Football player at LHS including 1st-team honors in 2015.

  • Graduated with school record for tackles in a single season.

  • Member of State Runner-Up 4x100 and 6th place 4x200 meter relay teams in 2015.
