Montrezl Harrell to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle with custom shoes in playoffs
Montrezl Harrell plans to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle this weekend when the Los Angeles Clippers take on the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, joining scores of NBA players who have paid tribute to the fallen rapper.
Harrell will reportedly wear a pair of custom shoes with Hussle’s face on them, the names of his longtime girlfriend and children and lyrics from his songs, according to TMZ.
Hussle was shot and killed last month in front of his clothing store in Los Angeles. The Grammy-nominated artist’s funeral was held on Thursday at the Staples Center, marking the first celebrity funeral to be held at the venue since Michael Jackson’s 10 years ago.
NBA players across the league paid tribute to Hussle after his death, and Russell Westbrook even dedicated his 20 points, 21 assists and 20 rebound game just days after Hussle’s death to the rapper. It marked just the second time in NBA history that a player finished with 20-20-20, too, the first time since 1968.
Harrell averaged 16.6 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Clippers this season, his fourth in the league, and has played a big part in the Clippers’ run to secure the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Clippers will take on the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, and will kick off their series on Saturday at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
